Statement Of Molly Olson on Governor Mark Dayton Veto
Thursday May 24, 2012 - UPDATE
Shared Parenting Bill
Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton VETO's Shared Parenting Bill
Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton VETOed HF322 today. The bill was completely gutted in the Senate. The House version is the true reform bill that would have ensure a rebuttable presumption of joint physical custody and equal shared parenting. The final senate version on Gov Mark Daytons desk would have only made one change in current. It would have changed ONE NUMBER in current law. It would have changed the current presumption of 25% parenting time to 35% parenting time. Governor Mark Dayton VETOed this bill.
In the governors veto letter it was clear - he listened to the lawyer groups and the domestic violence groups. The divorce industry won again at the expense of children.
- Pray for wisdom, strategy, funding, leaders, volunteers to continue the battle.
- The power and heavy hand of the third branch of government (courts and the small elite group of lawyers from Bar Assoc, AAML, and Legal Aid) is great, making the battle against the other two branches of government enormous - it requires 2 full-time people who are willing to volunteer for this cause to even begin to make a difference
